a clutch of second thoughts…
an unkindness of ravens, a deceit of lapwings, a murder of crows (birds had a bad rep…), a kindle of kittens, a pounce of cats, a pomp of pekingese, a knot of toads, an intrusion of cockroaches, a shrewdness of apes, an implausibility of gnus, a pitfall of fine print, a trip of hippies, a panic of producers, an escheat of lawyers, a column of accountants, a sample of salesmen, a conjunction of grammarians, a madder of painters, a ring of jewelers, a float of dancers (female) a flight of dancers (male), a stone of drunks, a wiggle of starlets, a giggle of girls, a rage of maidens, a herd of harlots, a grope of groupies (hehe), a shush of librarians, a shrivel of critics, a délicatesse of gourmets, a delicatessen of gourmands, a click of photographers, a thrill of fans, a slant of journalists, an iamb of poets, a descent of relatives, a meter of percussionists, a dish of gossips, a pan of reviewers, a magnum of hitmen in pursuit of a split of debtors, an ennui of haute bourgeoisie, a brow of scholars, a drift of lecturers, a drowse of unachievers, a helix of geneticists, a breakdown of plans! a glut of commercials, a hack of smokers, a buzz of barflies, a consternation of mothers, a complex of psychoanalysts, a diligence of messengers, a pound of pianists, an erudition of editors, an illusion of painters, a clutch of second thoughts…

A ngengerts of chuvachienes.

a chukchak of chenes!
is this poetic license or are they proper mass terms?
these are real:
convocation of eagles
parliament of owls
crash of rhinos
gaggle of geese (in water)
skein of geese (in flight)
pod of whales
etc.
it's the birds that have great group names. as in, dissimulation of birds.
a dakota of nota?
eeeee! (saan?)
meron pang a cast of hawks, an ostentation of peacocks, a richness of martens… asteeeeg!
according to my book, most of them are Old English hunting terms.
a lot of the entries i posted from the book must've started out as poetic license.
